We have just had word that Rachelle Denneny has been award the Best of Australia at the AQC (Australasian Quilt Convention) for her quilt Golden Ivory!  It was announced just a short time ago - we are waiting for photos! A fantastic award to receive and very well deserved and all of us at Berrima Patchwork are so please for her. We can't wait for Rachelle to be joining us as one of our talented tutors for Quilting in the Highlands 2013.

AQC Best of Australia

The Australasian Quilt Convention is currently on and they will be announcing the Best of Australia Winner. The Best of Australia Category is made up of all the winners who won Best of Show in each state.  you can view all the quilts up for this award by clicking here

Workshop Inner Light w/ Deb Karasik

Inner Light is one of the workshops that we have on offer as part of the Berrima Patchwork - Quilting in the Highlands Retreat in July. 

 

Deb Karasik is an award winning quilter and author of 2 books. Based in Durham, North Carolina USA,  Deb is quilting, teaching and writing professionally, and her travels take her worldwide to share her passion for contemporary quilting, meeting new people, and sharing her knowledge with quilters everywhere.

'Inner Light' is probably the most popular workshop that Deb teaches and makes up beautifully in any colour family you choose! Learn not only the basics of paper piecing, but how colour choices can really make your quilt glow! The Original “Inner Light” was made as a donation for the 2007 MAQS auction held every year in Paducah Kentucky. It was so popular that Deb created a class from this quilt. The quilt is only two blocks, the inner elongated spikey blocks and the outer blocks with the flying geese. Deb in this workshop will take you through all the steps to create this amazing quilt. The finished quilt measures 44” Square.

This workshop will be on the 29th and 30th July 2013 and is part of our Quilting in the Highlands Retreat.

Free Tutorial for Easter

Since I am currently obsessed with sock animals at the moment I thought that in the spirit of Easter it would be appropriate to post an "Easter" themed sock animal free tutorial (now that is a mouthful). This is a very cute sock bunny, that I definitely have on my list to make (when I have the time!) New Mini Hexagon Set

 This 10 piece Mini Hexagon Set is a little different from our usual templates; these pieces have the centres cut out to make tracing such small pieces easier. There is a 3/4" Hexagon, with matching triangle and diamond, a 1/2" hexagon with matching triangle and diamond, a 3/8" hexagon with matching triangle and diamond and a single 1/4" hexagon (the triangles and diamond were too small!)

Use these templates to make Grandmother's Flower Garden blocks, Hexagon Stars and variations on these themes. The triangle and diamond can be used to join blocks together.

The past week I haven't been able to sew on my machine so I thought hmmm what else could I make - a Sock Monkey! I have never made one before and it was so much fun.

Customer Show and Tell

This past week we have had two wonderful finished projects brought into the shop to show to us by our customers.

First up is Dianne's Waratah Quilt. Dianne took Melinda Bula's workshop with us at Quilting in the Highlands 2012. It is amazing and looks fantastic.

 

Our second customer show and tell is this award winning jacket. We would love to congratulate Jane who made this wonderful jacket and has been award 1st place at the local Robertson Show last week. It is definitely colourful, just the way Jane wanted it to be. Jane quilted the jacket but unfortunately it doesn't show up on the photos. It was made using the Sedona Canyon Jacket pattern. Congrats Jane!

 

Second Quilt Winner

Our second winner - Pam who won in The Rural Fire Service Raffle the "To the Rescue Quilt" picked up her quilt this week. Thank-you to everyone who purchased tickets.
We raised a total of $805 for the Rural Fire Service Southern Highland Team - Berrima.

Airing of the Quilts and Sale TOMORROW!

Tomorrow is our Airing of the Quilts and Sale at Berrima Patchwork. From 10am till 3pm we will have a display of local quilters and teachers work both inside the shop and outside - that is correct we have expanded this years airing of the quilts to the outdoors! The shop will be open from 10am till 4pm and we will be holding a sale on fabric in the shop and online (details below).

We have updated our website and now have over 4000 fabrics for you to choose from. If you place an order via our website the fabrics will have had a 20% discount applied to them. To obtain the discount orders need to be placed on Saturday 9th February between 12am and 11:59pm (EST - Sydney, Australia Time) . If you are a stash club member please enter your number when you are at checkout. It must be your number (not someone else's) and the order must be going to the address that corresponds with the stash club membership card. Orders will only be taken online for products that have been loaded onto the online shop, we know this is not our entire range of products but it is a very large selection. We will not be taking any special orders over the internet or via phone on this day , sorry. If it's not on the site we can't take an order for it. For the next week we will be holding a raffle fundraiser for the Rural Fire Service Southern Highland's Team. The Rural Fire Service do an amazing job throughout Australia and this is our way of giving back to them as a thank-you for the fantastic work they do.
Berrima Patchwork has donated the 3 prizes. The first quilt is called Oriental Geisha. The second quilt is called To The Rescue and measures and our third prize is a $100 gift voucher to be used in store or online at Berrima Patchwork. We will be drawing the winners at 3pm on Sunday 10th February and the winner's will have a choice of prizes in the order they are drawn.

Australia Day in Berrima

Australia Day is always a popular day in the town of Berrima as the town is the host for the Southern Highland region events. During the day there are market store in the park, entertainment and at lunch time there is a street parade. Here are some photos from the day.
